2004-03-20 [balletchick]: I think Marriage is a personal religious act between a man and a woman who love each other. I think to take anything away from that is wrong. However, I also think it is wrong to discriminate against gays and lesbians and deny them equal civil rights. I've heard of gay people getting together and "marrying" another gay of the opposite sex in order to get legal benifits. This cheapens marriage even further. I think all unions (gay or straight) should be considerd "civil unions" and leave it up to each religion and person to decide who to court.

2004-03-24 [magnolia]: I’m not disagreeing with you, but I am not all too sure any of you really understand what is going on. Gay marriage is not illegal. It goes state to state, the federal government does not intervene – while what you should really be against is the defense of marriage act, where it states one state does not have to recognize gay marriage from another state, if they don’t want to. Which, clearly, is in direct conflict with the full faith and credit clause. Lastly, the federal marriage amendment was first introduced in 2002, and if I remember correctly, not by Bush. Either way, this is nothing new.. And if you really knew what it would take to amend the constitution, you wouldn’t be so upset.
